If you have a new kindergartner at home, summer is a great time to prepare for the coming school and have fun together!

Here are a few recommended resources that you can find on GCPS’ Early Learning and School Readiness web page:

It’s not too late to register for kindergarten

We can’t wait to welcome your kindergartner to school! If your child will be five years old on or before Sept. 1, now is the time to register for kindergarten so your child will be ready to learn when classes begin on Aug. 4!

Register in this easy, two-step process:

Step 1—Complete online registration on the GCPS website.

Step 2—Schedule an appointment at your child’s new school to verify information, complete a kindergarten readiness profile, pick up materials to help your child prepare for school, and learn about exciting summer enrichment opportunities for your new kindergartner!

Play 2 Learn @home

We believe that parents are their child's first best teacher. On our Play 2 Learn @home web page, parents and caregivers will find videos and resources that model and support them on their educational journey with their children. Families will find a host of resources, including read-alouds that the whole family will enjoy and tips for families to support their child’s learning. From the comfort of your home and with basic household items, you can learn how to introduce, teach, and reinforce early learning skills that all children need for success. Remember, brains are built, not born!

Building Babies’ Brains: The Gwinnett Building Babies’ Brains website promotes an awareness of how important early learning is to brain development and the future of our children. The site provides information, practical tools, and age-specific resources for being your child’s first and best teacher. You will find everything you need—from home activities to where to find childcare to texting services for tips on teaching your child and everything in between! 

Summer Learning at Home for Rising Kindergartners: Help your rising kindergartner prepare for school with daily learning experiences in areas like reading and writing, hands-on science, math fun, and more! When you include these fun activities in your weekly routine, your child will be getting ready for a successful start!

GCPS Early Learning and School Readiness Pinterest Board: Check out this Pinterest board for a collection of resources on your child’s physical development, social/emotional development, academic development, and more!

Ready4KGA: If you have a mobile phone, ideas to help boost your child’s learning are just a text away! Developed by education researchers, Ready4KGAis a free text messaging program for parents of young children (ages birth to 5). It’s easy to subscribe, just text GEORGIA to 70138, or sign up for Ready4KGA online. Each week, you will receive three age-specific texts with fun facts and easy tips on how to use everyday family activities to boost your child’s learning. Ready4KGA activities build on the things that you already do with your child— like getting your child dressed, meal time, and bath time— to make boosting your child’s learning fast, fun, and easy. The service is available in both English and Spanish and the tips are customized for Georgia families.
