Lionheart's 'Bleach' Opens Friday

Second show of the year at the theatre features work of local playwright.

This Friday is the debut of "Bleach," 's second show of the year.

Written by James Beck and directed by Tanya Caldwell, "Bleach" is a comical story about Rick, a newly hired exterminator who's just trying to go through life but ends up finding trouble in the simplest of things. He doesn't know how to appropriately use a rope or how to act in a job interview, and he has an unhealthy fascination with bleach.

"Rick is a good guy, generally," said Beck, who's also the founder of Onion Man Productions. "But he finds himself in a life when he's stressed to the max, and the way he tries to solve those problems doesn't make it better. They push him more to the extremes, and that leads to the comedy."

Aside from Rick, who's played by Lionheart regular James Caldwell, the show features other characters who actually help Rick get out of his misguided life. Bob Smith, another regular, plays Rick's boss, and three Lionheart newcomers play the roles of women whose lives have been affected by Rick: Jessica McGuire as Susan; Keisha Bolden as Celia; and Stacy C. King as Cathy.

"It's the third year we've done an original work with a local playwright," said Director Tanya Caldwell, who's also the founder of Lionheart.

What's interesting about "Bleach," Tanya Caldwell added, is that it could be nominated for the Metro Atlanta Theatre Awards in July. Judges will be attending the shows on the weekends to decide if the show is worthy of a nomination in a categories such as best original work, best actor, and best director.

The show runs from Feb. 10 to Feb. 19 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets, which can be purchased online and at the door, are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Dessert will also be included with each ticket purchase.
