Man With Knife Shot, Killed By Police In Norcross

The man was accused of running toward a Gwinnett County police officer with a knife, the GBI said.

NORCROSS, GA — A 22-year-old man accused of running toward a Gwinnett County officer with a knife early Saturday morning was shot and killed by police, according to the GBI.

Officers responded around 1 a.m. to a grocery store parking lot in the 1200 block of Tech Drive. The GBI said there had been reports of a man with a knife in the parking lot.

Gwinnett County Police said the call came in from a security guard who was hired by the property.

The security guard said a man with a knife approached her while she was in her security car in front of the grocery store, police said. The man asked if she was armed, police said.

Police told the man to drop the knife, and he did not comply, the GBI said.

After he tried to run toward an officer with the knife, officers shot him, the GBI said.

Police said an officer who was a SWAT medic attempted to render first aid.

The man later died at a local hospital, the GBI said.

The man was identified by the GBI as Tiyzair Ahmad Huddleston of Norcross.

No officers were injured in the shooting, the GBI said.

An autopsy will be performed by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office.

After the GBI's investigation, the case will then go to the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office for review.
