Maundy Thursday: Service of Shadows

Tenebrae, or Service of Shadows, is one of the oldest traditions in the Christian church for the commemoration of the passion and death of Christ. Through the music and scripture the story of Christ’s betrayal, trial and the crucifixion is told. Communion will be observed as we remember the broken body and spilled blood of the Savior. As the Passion story unfolds, candles are extinguished and the darkness deepens, until with Christ’s death, only one light is left burning. This light is dramatically removed from the sanctuary, symbolizing Christ’s three days in the tomb.
