Norcross Elementary to Help Fight Against World Hunger

The school is celebrating its 10th year participating in the Empty Bowls Project, an international effort to feed those in need.

Norcross Elementary School will be celebrating its 10th year in the Empty Bowls Project, an international effort to fight hunger, one bowl at a time.

Students are pounding, shaping and decorating raw clay to glaze them over a fire and create more than a 100 bowls that are each a unique work of art.

The bowls will be on sale at the school's Montage exhibit on April 1. At the event, guests will be invited to choose a bowl, which they will take home as a reminder that there are too many empty bowls in our world.

In exchange for the bowl, guests are asked to give a minimum donation of $5. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Norcross Cooperative Ministry, a local organization working to end hunger in our community.

In addition to the fantastic Empty Bowls, the Montage exhibit will feature hundreds of pieces of artwork by the students, and performances by members of the chorus, drama club and more.

“I’m really excited for the show,” said art teacher Bobbie Adamczyk. “This is a great way for the community to see the amazing artwork from our students, and most importantly, this experience helps the students learn that they can make a difference."

Join the cause in the school's gym Monday, April 1, at 5:30 p.m. for an evening of art, entertainment and community as they celebrate an opportunity to help end hunger, one bowl at a time.

This event is supported by the Norcross Arts Alliance, as part of its Community Outreach Programs.
