Norcross Tree Planting Initiative

Norcross Tree Planting Initiative

The City of Norcross is offering a tree planting initiative to promote and increase the tree canopy on owner occupied residential properties located within the city limits. Norcross Residents may choose either a red maple, overcup oak,  or lacebark elm tree . The trees will be approximately 13 to 15 feet tall. The offer is limited to the first one hundred (100) applicants to submit their application with a check for $50.00 made payable to Imagescapes,Inc. The City of Norcross is contributing the balance of the cost of the trees and planting of the trees. Only one tree will be granted for each residential tax parcel. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 p.m., October 15, 2013. Applications shall be submitted, with check attached, to Jeff Mueller, City Engineer, Norcross City Hall, 65 Lawrenceville Street, Norcross, GA 30071. Applicants can download an application from the City of Norcross website at http://www.norcrossga.net. The trees will be planted the week of November 25th.

The Norcross Tree Preservation Board was formed almost ten years ago.  The board is responsible for establishing the standards necessary to ensure that the policy of no net loss of canopy coverage will be realized and that the city will continue to enjoy the benefits provided by its urban forest.  The board requires developers to submit plans ensuring a designated percentage of tree canopy is met on their sites.  It also works to maintain our current canopy by replacing trees lost to disease and natural decline through programs such as the fall Tree Planting Initiative and the annual Arbor Day observance.  The board currently has an opening for a new member.  All interested residents may contact the City Clerk’s office for more information.
