Our Whiz Kid of the Week, Jesus Ixta

Each week Patch recognizes a student or students who have excelled either academically, through community work or on the athletic field. This week we recognize:

Name: Jesus Alejandro Ixta, Age 8

School: 1st grade at Beaver Ridge Elementary School

Accomplishment: Jesus has shown huge academic progress says his teacher, Catherine Bell.

Key to Awesomeness: When he entered the first grade he was reading at level 3.  He is now reading at level 14.  He has accomplished this by working hard and consistently overcoming his obstacles. At the beginning of the year, he would get frustrated and give up with reading. Now, as we near the end of this school year,  it is rare not to see Jesus engrossed in a book.

His successes are partially due to his willingness to ask for help from his peers.  He is attentive to other students’ opinions and views. He isn’t afraid to ask questions until he understands the concepts being taught.  Jesus is determined to learn and be a successful lifelong learner.
