Police Investigating Norcross Shooting Death

Michael J. Harvey, 39, of Snellville, was found laying in the road with at least one gunshot wound, police say.

NORCROSS, GA — Gwinnett County Police are continuing to investigate the shooting death of a local man in Norcross.

Police believe Michael J. Harvey, 39, of Snellville, was shot and killed some time Thursday night. His body was found in the roadway of Button Gwinnett Drive near the intersection of Crescent Drive.

A passerby called 911 at about 8:30 p.m., saying he'd found an unresponsive man laying in the road.

Responding officers discovered that Harvey had sustained at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers investigating the crime this week are focusing on two vehicles that are believed related to the shooting.

Harvey was found near an SUV, they say. And an abandoned minivan was found nearby. Detectives believe the minivan had previously been reported stolen.

Both vehicles appeared to have been damaged.

In initial reports of the shooting, police said it was unclear whether the shooter, or shooters, ran away on foot or escaped in another vehicle.
