Remains Found In Woods Belong To Missing Norcross Teen: Police

NORCROSS, GA — Remains found Monday near Drowning Creek are confirmed to belong to a missing 16-year-old Norcross girl, Gwinnett County Police said Wednesday afternoon.

Police said her remains were found by a passerby around 6:30 p.m. in the woods along Highway 316 near Drowning Creek and the Barrow County line.

The cause and manner of her death are unknown.

Morales texted her mom around 9:45 p.m. the night she went missing, saying she was on her way home, police said. She never arrived, police said.

Video footage from her cell phone shows Morales walking toward her home between 10:07 p.m. and 10:21 p.m. in the area of Windscape Village Lane and Singleton Road, police said. Though the footage shows her walking toward her house, police believe she may have gotten into a car.

Evidence from her cell phone shows her last known location was between 10:21 p.m. and 10:26 p.m. at Oak Loch Trace near Steve Reynolds Boulevard, police said, noting Oak Loch was where her cell phone either died or was turned off.
