Summerour Middle May Move to GIVE Building

School system says they plan to renovate the old Norcross High facility, where GIVE is now located.

Gwinnett County School officials say they’d like to move to the old building, which currently houses the This would pave the way for a new elementary school at the current Summerour campus, which was described as one of the “capital needs” for the school system.

A list of e-SPLOST projects released by the school district included information about the move. “Plans are to renovate the old Norcross HS then move Summerour to that location,” the flyer states.

The funds for the move and renovation would not come from SPLOST funds, but would but would come from “alternative funds in the future,” according to Sloan Roach, spokesperson for Gwinnett County Schools.

Information about the move and new school was included on the e-SPLOST flyer to clarify what 1-percent sales tax for education would fund: Technology improvements to the current Summerour facility. 

“—we knew that would raise some questions,” said Roach. So they decided to provide the public with information about the future plans as they relate to the upcoming vote, she said. The GIVE Center and Gwinnett's online campus are moving to a new building at 5556 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Peachtree Corners.

The details of the arrangement are still very uncertain and a date is not set for the move. “Until there’s funding, nothing can happen,” said Roach.
