SWAT Standoff Suspect Shot, Killed Self: Police

A standoff on Williamsburg Lane on Thursday ended when the man, who barricaded himself in his home, apparently shot himself.

NORCROSS, GA — The armed standoff at a home on Williamsburg Lane ended nearly 12 hours after it started, according to the Gwinnett Police Department, when a man who was barricaded inside his home apparently killed himself. The man, described by neighbors as "Tony," was firing shots in his front yard Thursday morning soon after 9 a.m. and neighbors called the police.

He stayed in his home while responding police, including SWAT officers, evacuated the area and tried to negotiate with him. Police say he may have had a handgun.

Police said neighbors called them at 9:07 a.m. Thursday, saying a man they referred to as Tony had been shooting a firearm in his front yard. Police said it may have been a handgun and there were multiple shots fired.

Tony lives in a rented space, neighbors are reported as saying. Police evacuated the other occupants of the house and put the neighborhood on alert. SWAT officers have been on the scene since around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

He is described as an Asian male in his late 40's, is bald and has tattoos on both arms, according to the Gwinnett Police Department.

SWAT officers are trying to get a search warrant for the house and "bring this situation to a peaceful end," police said in the release.

“Officers have attempted contact with the subject inside. Haven’t been able to make contact with him on any of the numbers that we have called, in trying to get him to come out,” Cpl. Wilbert Rundles of the Gwinnett County Police Department said, according to WSB.

Public access to the street is closed. Police don't know what purpose the man had for firing his weapon.
