Falcons great Buddy Curry addresses group and Wells Fargo announces $1.8 million for United Way and Community Support campaign

Three Norcross non-profits were honored today by Wells Fargo team members with $1,000 Days of Giving donations.

Wells Fargo also announced that its employees gave or pledged $1.8 million this fall in the United Way and Community Support campaign – 24 percent more than last year.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (A Worley Brown Club), Norcross Cooperative Ministries and The Mission Society, all of Norcross, received grants today.

In all, 44 groups received $1,000 checks today at a community breakfast at the Sonesta Gwinnett Place in Duluth.

Falcons great Buddy Curry got the group off its feet with football exercises and then presented his five “core life principles” – sportsmanship, integrity, excellence, perseverance and teamwork.

“Perseverance is the most important,” he said. “Never ever quit.”

Said Wells Fargo East Atlanta President Carol Morris, “To some a $1,000 grant may seem small, but we know each of these great groups will be able to make a huge difference with this. And collectively this will have a major impact in our community.”

Three additional breakfasts are occurring this month and some 240 groups in all will receive $1,000 gifts in metro Atlanta. With the program in its sixth year, giving across Georgia will exceed $1.5 million this fall.

All the groups were selected by frontline team members in bank offices in the East Atlanta area for the work they are doing locally.

“We are doing our best to be a great local bank, and this is a cornerstone of our local giving and volunteerism,” said Jill Edwards, business banking manager.

Similar events are taking place this fall across Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi.
