Shooting the Women's NCAA Championship

The NCAA Womens National Championships were held this weekend in Kennesaw. Here are a few pictures of the final game between Stanford and Duke.

It’s only my second blog so please still excuse the rough edges.

This photo blog is my attempt to show off some of the great things about living here.  The people, places and events that we all can enjoy.  If you have suggestions of people or events you would like to see me cover, please pass them on.  I usually shoot more pictures then are included in the blog.  If you want to see more photos like the ones featured go to my web site at http://martingphoto.zenfolio.com/.  Thanks and I hope you enjoy the shots.  John P. Division 1 Women’s Soccer

We have a great variety of sporting events available to us and I wish I could attend more of them.  The Atlanta professional teams are awesome, but my favorites are the ones that feature our own local amateur athletes.  High school sports and club sports such as soccer are available most of the year and prices vary from free to under $10 admission to most events.

This weekend the family and I splurged and attended an event never before held in Atlanta, the NCAA Women's National Championship.  Some of the best women’s soccer in the world was played at Kennesaw Stadium this weekend.  If you haven’t attended a game there, I highly recommend it.  The stadium and field are top notch and ticket prices are very reasonable.  The national Championship tickets were $25 bucks and were an amazing value.

The finals featured Stanford vs Duke and I was rooting for Stanford who had made the finals but lost the last two years.  It stayed exciting till the end with Duke pressing hard up to the last minute.  The game winning goal starting far in the Stanford backfield with defender Camille Levin stealing the ball from Duke and passing it to a midfelder.  Camille then made an overlapping run, received the ball and carried it all the way downfield to the Duke 18 yard box.  A Duke defender made a great tackle knocking her to the ground, but she got up, beat everyone to the ball, fought past another defender and crossed the ball perfectly to the head of Teresa Noyola who buried it in the net.

I wish I had a picture of that, but I was too busy cheering.  Here are a few shots I do have of the action, the fans, Scrappy the Kennesaw mascot and the Championship trophy.  It was a fun day with great soccer and great fans.

Check out your local school calendar or local sports club for events next weekend.
