Cobb BoC Honors PTA with Proclamation

Marietta, Georgia, September 9, 2014:

Cobb families, educators, and students got a huge show of support today from the Cobb County Board of Commissioners. Bob Ott, District 2 Commissioner, and the Board officially proclaimed September as PTA Membership Enrollment Month, formalizing the strong support the Cobb community has always shown for family-school partnerships.

β€œThe proclamation means that our local elected officials understand the important role that parents, families, business owners and other stakeholders play in the success and vitality of our Cobb County schools. PTA membership leads to family engagement, which leads to student success and achievement,” says Irene Barton, Georgia PTA District 9 Director.

The overall purpose of PTA is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. The goal of having one adult member for every child gives PTA a unified voice speaking on behalf of every child. Cobb and City of Marietta schools boasted over 63,000 members for the 2013-14 school year. This includes 120 local PTA units in 5 councils, representing the almost 110,000 students in Cobb and approximately 8,000 students in Marietta.

β€œDistrict 9’s goal is to increase membership by 2% this year, which we feel is attainable,” says District 9’s Membership co-chair Heather Held. β€œWe have developed a Toolkit that our local PTAs can use to promote membership and explain to families, teachers, and students how the programs supported by PTA enhance the educational experience.”
