Free App Offers Self-Guided Tour Of One Of Our District's Gems, N.E. Cobb

You can take a self-guided tour to learn all about the earliest settlers of the Concord Covered Bridge Historic District by taking a “walk through history” with the Historic District Audio Tour app. Embarking from any of four starting points connecting to the Silver Comet Trail, the walking audio tour guides visitors on their smartphones, stop-by-stop on a journey back through time to the 1800s, when a small milling community operated in and around the Concord Covered Bridge. Many of the sites that the tour takes you to are on the National Register of Historic Places. As you approach to explore each individual site, the audio track is automatically triggered by GPS geofencing. The rich narrative delivers historical background about the area and personal stories of its residents from another century. The tour includes additional photographic content supplementing the storylines and bringing history to life.

From the Woolen Mill Ruins, where fine woven wool goods and clothing were produced, to Ruff’s Grist Mill, where you can view the fieldstone façade pockmarked with bullets from the Civil War, this app captures the heritage of this unique and irreplaceable part of Cobb County. The tour can also provide a “virtual” experience for those who aren’t able to make the trip to the Silver Comet Trail by viewing a web version at concordcoveredbridge.org/audiotour.

This free app was developed and released by the Friends of the Concord Covered Bridge Historic District, a nonprofit community group supporting Cobb County’s first official historic district, established in 1986. It is now available to download at the Apple App Store or on Google Play for android devices (just search for “Concord Covered Bridge”).
