Gingrich To Bow Out of Race; Will He Be VP?

Newt Gingrich has all but conceded that Mitt Romney is the likely candidate to win the GOP's presidential nomination, according to the New York Times

“I think you have to at some point be honest with what’s happening in the real world, as opposed to what you’d like to have happened,” Gingrich said, according to a brief report in the National Journal.

While visiting in North Carolina on Wednesday, Gingrich said he would still take part in the GOP Convention in August but would likely transition out of the race within the next several days.

“Governor Romney had a very good day yesterday. He got 67 in one state, and he got 63 in other, 62 in another,” Gingrich said in alluding to Romney’s winning percentages. “Now you have to give him some credit. I mean this guy’s worked six years, put together a big machine, and has put together a serious campaign.”

Gingrich made several stops in Smyrna-Vinings while campaigning in Georgia earlier this year including a rally at the Atlanta Marriot Northwest and special appearance at a Cobb Chamber of Commerce breakfast. He even held his victory party in Smyrna when he won the Georgia primary. Gingrich said he would have an announcement regarding his campaign within the next few days.
