Cobb Countyβs Board of Commissioners approved a resolution condemning racism in the wake of disturbing and tragic incidents in this country and reaffirms the commitment to provide an environment that supports civil rights for all.

βThis resolution is a first step,β said District Four Commissioner Lisa Cupid. βWe have a lot of work to do. I hope this is a new day for Cobb County. Our actions moving forward that reflect this resolution will say a lot.β
βWhat we did today reflects the true heart and spirit of this board,β said Commission Chairman Mike Boyce. βIβm pleased with the action and look forward to working with the community to continue to do all we can to fight the evils of racism.β

The board also adopted a resolution in support of a Hate Crimes Bill that addresses crimes involving bias, hate, bigotry, or prejudice.
The unanimous decision encourages the Cobb delegation to continue to work closely with the state legislature in adopting the bill, which ensures equal protection and equal justice for all.
A crime of hate is any crime committed due to the victimβs actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, mental disability, or physical disability.
