Northeast Cobb Crafters Help Mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Cobb District Attorney Joyette M. Holmes' office is partnering with liveSAFE Resources to encourage local crafters to help mark World Elder Abuse Awareness Day in a creative way – with a “yarn storm.” Senior ADA Jason Marbutt, who heads the Elder Abuse Unit in the DA’s Office, said he hopes this will become an annual event.

“This new initiative is a creative way to call attention to the abuses of elderly and disabled populations that are growing exponentially,” Marbutt said. “We want the public to be aware that abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of these particularly vulnerable individuals is happening every day. Together, we can help stop this.”

Donations of 6 inch by 6 inch knitted or crocheted squares are needed by June 10 to create this project. (See photo for example.) Squares can be dropped off at or shipped to liveSAFE Resources at 48 Henderson St., Marietta.
