Twin Trial Addresses 2 Suspicious Men
The opening statements paint two different pictures of the relationship between former Northeast Cobb resident Wael Ali and the twin he's accused of killing.
The death of Wasel Ali was either a calculated effort by his twin brother to break from a troubled shared past or a tragic moment that still haunts his twin.
Those are the in their Tuesday at the first-degree-murder trial of former Northeast Cobb resident Wael Ali, according to Columbia Patch.
The 23-year-old Ali is on trial in Howard County Circuit Court in Ellicott City, MD. He was in September in connection with his twin’s death in Columbia, MD, four years earlier.

The first witness at the trial, Stephen Calamia, is the man who found Wasel Ali’s body five days after he disappeared.
Between the time of the disappearance and the grisly discovery, Calamia said, he saw two suspicious-looking men at 2 a.m. leave the area where the body was found.

“It was all very strange,” he said, according to Columbia Patch. “Their demeanor, their heads were hung low, and they were walking quickly, with purpose.”
Also testifying Tuesday was the medical examiner who performed the autopsy. Ana Rubio said a break of the cricoid cartilage in the lower neck killed Wasel Ali, though she doesn’t know what caused the break.
Testimony by Howard County police Officer Clay Davis is expected to take up a large part of this morning’s session.
