Bites Nearby: Rachel's Southern Style Restaurant

Meat-and-three restaurants are as quintessentially Southern as boiled peanuts, Moon Pies and Coca-Cola, but like other aspects of our landscape, they are disappearing at an alarming rate.

Devotees of home cooking in Oconee County need not despair because Rachel’s Southern Style Restaurant is serving up Southern-style food six days a week.

Biscuits and cornbread, the Southern staples of the bread kingdom, are made to perfection and served in abundance. The menu changes, but offerings include: fried chicken, catfish, coleslaw, mashed potatoes with gravy, sweet potatoes, macaroni and cheese, turnip greens and other Southern culinary favorites.

Though it will prove difficult, save room for dessert; delicious cobblers, pies and cakes are yours for the ordering.
