OCHS Tennis Sweeps Visiting Colts

Warrior Girls, Boys Advance to Round of 16 in State Tennis Playoffs

The Oconee County girls and boys tennis teams took care of business on the court Tuesday afternoon, picking up identical 4-1 wins over the visiting Coahulla Creek Colts of Dalton. The win places both in the round of 16 in the state AAA playoff. The GHSA draws worked in the opening round in a way that allowed the Warriors to face the same high school, Coahulla Creek,  for both boys and girls matches at home, which was a bit of a coincidence.

The Lady Warriors were led by wins at the top two singles spots and both doubles. Jordan England won at number one 6-3, 6-3, while Katy Kane blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Number one doubles Kimberly Case and Macy Bird won 6-2, 6-2 and Megan Morris and Ivy Do won with a shutout performance 6-0, 6-0. The Lady Warriors are now 12-8 for the year, and will face Buford in the second round Thursday afternoon.

For the Warrior men, Will McDonald won 6-1, 6-0 at number one singles, while Drew Horsley won his 20th match of the year with a 6-0, 6-0 win at number two singles. Both doubles teams continued their winning trends, as the number one doubles duo of Dan Madden and Zach Miner won easily 6-2, 6-1 and the number two dubs team of Chandler Shields and Mitchell Graves coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory. The Warriors will face either West Hall or defending state champion Woodward Academy on a date and time to be announced. The Warriors are now 15-6 for the year.
