Oconee County Planning Staff Does Not Recommend Approval Of Permit For Recycling Facility

The Oconee County planning staff is not recommending approval of a special use permit that Bernard A. Garrett is requesting for a recycling facility at 1441 Dials Mill Road.

The Oconee County planning staff has determined that a proposed materials recycling facility on Dials Mill Road in the northwestern part of the county is not consistent with the surrounding area or with developmental goals for that part of the county.

If the facility is built, the staff has concluded, it “could negatively affect the ability for all of the properties adjoining the site” to be developed consistent with county land use plans.

As a consequence of these and other identified problems, the staff has written that it “does not recommend approval” of the special use permit that Bernard A. Garrett is requesting for a 9-acre parcel within a 39-acre piece of property at 1441 Dials Mill Road.

The Planning Commission is set to consider the staff report at its meeting on Monday. The Planning Commission makes recommendations to the Board of Commissioners, which is scheduled to take up the permit request from Garrett at its meeting on May 7.
