County To Spend 2004 And 2009 SPLOST Reserves

County is financially sound, the finance director told the Board of Commissioners.

Oconee County soon will deplete money currently sitting in the 2004 and 2009 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax accounts and then will be dependent solely on revenue coming from the 2015 tax, county Finance Director Wes Geddings reported earlier this month.

The 2004 SPLOST account currently has $2.5 million in unspent funds, while the 2009 SPLOST account has $0.4 million, Geddings told the Board of Commissioners as part of his financial update for the first quarter of the 2019 Fiscal Year.

The 2004 funds will be used for the expansion and security update for the existing Courthouse, Geddings said.

A part of the 2009 funds already have been committed for the county’s farmland protection program, Geddings told the Commissioners.

County Administrator Justin Kirouac is to recommend Tuesday night at the Board of Commissioners meeting that Kevin Price Construction, 2500 Daniells Bridge Road, be awarded a contract for Construction Management at Risk for the Courthouse work.
