Deputies Find Marijuana-Laced Brownies at North Oconee High

A 16-year-old student reportedly brought them to school on Tuesday.

Five students are in hot water after one of them, a 16-year-old, allegedly brought "pot brownies" with her to on Tuesday.

reports the female student brought the brownies to celebrate another student's birthday and they were distributed to several other students.

"School officials realized there was an issue with the brownies when one of the students became ill and divulged the cause of the illness," a news release from the Sheriff's Office stated.

A 17-year-old female student and an 18-year-old male student were both charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and three others received juvenile complaint forms.

Superintendent John Jackson told the Athens Banner-Herald a hearing is usually held within 10 days for anyone suspected of being in violiation of the student code of conduct.
