Dominick's Brings Family Recipes to Watkinsville

Oconee has a new restaurant serving up Italian cuisine.

After a long day, one doesn't always feel like cooking and then cleaning up. That's what happened last Thursday when my husband and I decided that a long, exhausting afternoon's work called for dinner out.

We'd already heard rave reviews about Oconee County's newest restaurant, , which opened on March 14 and boasts family recipes and fresh ingredients. We were eager to try it.

Stepping into the lovely dining room abuzz with customers, we immediately felt that we'd made the correct choice.  Linens on the tables, professional and friendly wait staff, and immediate attention made us feel welcome and excited to try the new menu.

The Watkinsville location at 1430 Capital Avenue is the forth Dominick's to grace north Georgia.  Three other locations in Gwinnett were previously owned by Monte Jungman and his partner, but he recently sold them and decided to open a Dominck's of his own in his home town.

"My wife has been an Oconee County school teacher for over ten years, so our Lawrenceville locations already had a following of our Oconee friends," Jungman said.  "I live right down the street from the Watkinsville Dominick's, so I am very happy with the location."

My husband and I were wow'd by the menu and had a hard time deciding what to choose from with so many options.  Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented.  Our friends dined shortly after us, and they were very impressed as well.

As an interior designer in the area for over 25 years,  I was very impressed with the elegant and understated decor.   A collection of black and white family photos has been started on the wall, and Jungman said he hopes to fill the walls with more of the same from Oconee families.

"We'd love for folks to bring in a family photo when they come," Jungman said.  "Even if it's in color, we will enlarge and tint and frame it to add to our collection."

Dominick's has a banquet room and is happy to host private parties or rehearsal dinners, Jungman said.

"Word is getting out and we are very happy with the reception we're getting here." Jungman said.

Do yourself and your spouse a favor and make a date together soon at Dominick's.

The restaurant is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m.
