The first Tour d'Oconee will be held on May 7 and hundreds of cyclists will descend upon Watkinsville to "Tame the Lion" of Oconee. The primary course is 62 miles with 2,850 ft of climbs and there are optional routes of 15, 25 and 35 miles. The race will feature great SAG stops. There has been an Oconee county-wide effort to launch this race, so come out and ride or cheer. Downtown Watkinsville is providing live entertainment the Friday night before the race during their "First Friday"celebration.
Proceeds will enable the Oconee County Cycling Organization to promote safe cycling in the county by helping to fund projects such as "Share the Road" signs on roads heavily used by both cyclists and motorists.
