July Unemployment Rate Holds Steady in Northeast Georgia
The unemployment rate for July was 8.8 percent, versus 9.1 percent in July 2012.

TheΒ GeorgiaΒ DepartmentΒ ofΒ LaborΒ announced that the unemployment rate in the NortheastΒ GeorgiaΒ region was unchanged at 8.3 percent in June and July. The rate was 8.7 percent in July a year ago.
TheΒ laborΒ force, which is the number of people employed plus those unemployed but actively looking for work, rose by 1,592 to 300,002 in July, up from 298,410 in June. It was up by 1,652 from 298,350 in July 2012.
Metro Athens had the lowest area jobless rate at 6.9 percent, while metro Dalton and the Heart ofΒ Georgia-Altamaha region tied for the highest at 12.3 percent.
Meanwhile,Β Georgiaβs seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July was 8.8 percent, up from 8.5 percent in June. The rate was 9.1 percent in July a year ago.
