U.S. Highway 27 heads north to Atlanta from Columbus and about five miles out of the heart of downtown Columbus, it passes through the community of Nankipooh. Highway 27, known in these parts as Hamilton Road continues north through the town of Hamilton and Callaway Gardens on its way to Atlanta. The center of Nankipooh is roughly near the intersection of the Hamilton Road, the Fortson Road, the Double Churches Road, and the old Central of Georgia Railroad line, now a part of the Southern Railroad System. It was here in 1950 , that my Grandpa, James Norman Biggers, ran a small country general store known as the Biggers Grocery. That little store seemed to me as a little boy to be the center of Georgia, if not the whole world.
