Oconee County Board Of Education Voices Support For Redistricting
Students moved to accommodate new Dove Creek Elementary School.
The Oconee County Board of Education gave no indication at its work session on Monday that it is likely to ask the administration of the county school system to modify the proposed redistricting plan for the county’s elementary schools.
Board Chair Tom Odom and Board members Tim Burgess and Wayne Bagley did ask questions of the school administration reflecting the comments made by citizens about the plan at the Board’s Oct. 10 Listening Session.
At the end of those questions, however, the three expressed support for the proposal, which will shift students from Malcom Bridge Elementary School and Rocky Branch Elementary School to accommodate the new Dove Creek Elementary School on Hog Mountain Road in the west of the county.

The Board is scheduled to adopt the plan at its next meeting on Nov. 13.
The Board also heard at its meeting on Monday that the system’s Educational Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or ELOST, is producing less revenue this year than last and is likely to fall short of the $33 million originally projected.
