Oconee County To Break Ground On Animal Shelter Renovation And Expansion Project June 15

Oconee County will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the renovation and expansion of the Oconee County Animal Shelter on Monday, June 15, 2020, at 10 a.m. with social distancing protocols in effect.

The project will include renovation of the existing building, expansion of the front lobby, and the addition of multi-purpose room. A new dog quarantine kennel, new cat quarantine kennel, and lab will also be constructed.

The Oconee County Board of Commissioners has approved a contract with Peak Steel for the project with a guaranteed maximum price of $738,643. The renovation and expansion is expected to be complete by the end of the calendar year.

“Oconee County Animal Services is always extremely grateful for the support from our Board of Commissioners and the support and generosity of the community and volunteers, as well as Friends of Oconee County Animal Shelter,” said Animal Services Manager Crystal Berisko. “We thank you for your support and so do the animals in our care.”

“We have selected a great contractor, and we look forward to being able to better serve our community with an improved facility,” said Emergency Management Agency Director C.J. Worden.
