Rolling Average COVID Cases Drops To July Level In NE District

Seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped to 5.6 in Oconee County and 10.3 in Clarke County.

The Northeast Health District added 95 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report on Wednesday, and the seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped below 100 for the first time since July 12.

The rolling average had been 103.6 on Tuesday and was 94.3 with the release of the Daily Status Report on Wednesday.

The District added no deaths attributed to COVID-19 in the Daily Status Report on Wednesday, and the seven-day rolling average of added deaths per day remained unchanged at 2.1. The District had not added any deaths on Wednesday of last week.

Every county in the 10-county Northeast Health District added at least one case in the Department of Public Health report on Wednesday, with Oconee county adding three cases and Clarke County adding 23.

The seven-day rolling average of added cases in Oconee County dropped to 5.6 cases per day from its high point of 10.3 cases per day on Sept. 8. The seven-day rolling average in Clarke County dropped to 31.4 on Wednesday from its high of 137.1 on Sept. 9.

The University of Georgia released its COVID-19 Health and Exposure Updates on Wednesday, reporting 163 Positive COVID-19 Tests for the week of Sept. 14 to 20, down from 446 cases a week ago and 1,500 the week before that.

Of those 163 cases, 123 were local, compared with 270 the previous week and 749 the week before that.

The Department of Community Health reported no new COVID-19 deaths at long-term care facilities in the Northeast Health district, no new deaths attributed to the disease, and only one new COVID-19 Positive Staff, at University Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Athens-Clarke County.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Wednesday that area hospitals had 66 COVID-19 patients, down from 69 on Tuesday, 61 ICU beds in use out of a capacity of 70, the same as on Tuesday, and 31 adult ventilators in use, up from 30 on Tuesday.
