School Board Approves Personnel Recommendations

At a work session on Monday, the Board of Education also heard a presentation about technology projects to be funded by the renewal of an education local option sales tax, if approved by voters later this year.

1. Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests begin April 18 with Reading. 

"Students need plenty of rest and a healthy breakfast next week," Superintendent John Jackson said.

2. The College Board has placed Oconee County Schools on an "Advanced Placement (AP) Achievement List," Jackson said. The school system is one of 400 schools nationwide and only  9 from Georgia to earn the distinction.

"Hats off to our teachers who do an excellent job preparing students," Jackson said.

3. Technology Director Michael Hale gave a presentation about technology projects that the school board may consider as part of the education local option sales tax (ELOST) project list.

Last month the school board chose as the election day for the ELOST renewal referendum.

At Monday's work session, Jackson requested that each board member consider nominating an individual to an ELOST Advisory Committee.

"We want to be as transparent as possible," he said. "We want additional eyes and ears in the community."

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Board members emerged from executive session and approved all personnel recommendations for certified renewals for the 2011-2012 school year, administrative assistant Deborah Epps said.   A complete list will be made available to the public on Wednesday, she added.
