North Oconee Titans Pumped for Football Playoffs

The enthusiasm is palpable at North Oconee High today, where in just a few hours the varsity football team will face Gordon Central in the first playoff game of the year.

The excitement is building at , as parents, staff and students look forward to the first playoff game of the season at home tonight against Gordon Central.

“We're really excited that we've made it this far,” said Gina Taylor, a driver's education teacher at North Oconee. “The kids are confident, but they are not cocky. They know they have a job to do and that they have to fight hard to make this happen.”

While the relatively young North Oconee Titans football team has appeared in playoffs before, they've never entered the post-season with this much fanfare. They went undefeated 10-0 this season for the first time in the team's history, and tonight's game will be featured live as the Fox High 5 Game of the Week.

"It's a great honor," athletic director Luis Varela said. "We're proud of our kids, coaches and fans. We are definitley looking forward to this game."

Earlier this morning, parents and fans snatched up T-shirts and other gear from a mobile trailer parked outside the school office. By 9 a.m., some shirts had sold out.

“I remember when we won our first football game in our second year,” said North Oconee High School teacher Laura Harrison. “To see us come this far is very exciting. It's exciting for the whole community.”
