Tractor-Trailer and Car Collide in Front of North Oconee High School
Two students were injured in the accident on GA Highway 53 Thursday morning, the Athens Banner-Herald reports.

First responders rushed to the scene of a two-vehicleΒ accident on GA Highway 53Β around 8 a.m.Β ThursdayΒ in front of North Oconee High School.
According to theΒ Georgia State Patrol,Β a Nissan Altima traveling east on GA Highway 53Β failed to yield as it made a left turn in front of a westboundΒ tractor-trailer.
The 17-year-old driver fromΒ Bogart was trying to turn into a parking lot of the school at the time,Β a spokesman for the GSPΒ told Patch in an email.Β Β He and a 15-year-old passengerΒ were both transported to Athens Regional Medical Center. Oconee County Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton confirmed both are students at NOHS.Β
According to the Athens Banner-Herald, one of the students was treated and released and the other was still being treated as of early afternoon Thursday.Β
The driver of the truck, a 55-year-oldΒ Vidalia man, was uninjured.
The driver of the AltimaΒ is charged withΒ failure to yield while turning left, the GSP spokesman said.Β
