Two COVID Deaths Push Up Rolling Average Of Deaths In NE District

Oconee County positivity rate for molecular tests increasing.

With the addition of two deaths from COVID-19 in the Department of Public Health Daily Status Report on Thursday, the Northeast Health District saw continued increases in the seven-day rolling average of added deaths.

The two deaths were in Elbert County. One was a 72-year-old male without a known chronic condition, and the other was of an 88-year-old female with a chronic condition.

The seven-day rolling average of added deaths based on the official count of the Daily Status Report increased to 1.7 on Thursday from 1.4 on Wednesday.

The 10-county Northeast Health District added 98 confirmed COVID-19 cases on Thursday, including five in Oconee County and 21 in Clarke County. The seven-day rolling average of added cases dropped from 82.0 on Wednesday to 79.9 on Thursday.

The Department of Community Health reported one new case of COVID-19 among the staff of long-term care facilities in the Northeast Health District. The new case was at The Oaks Athens Skilled Nursing Home, which now has had 11 staff members with the disease.

The Department of Public Health corrected its listing of the number of molecular tests and positivity rates for Oconee and Clarke counties. For several days, no tests were recorded.

In Oconee County, the positivity rate was 8.2 for the 97 tests listed on Thursday, and the seven-day average of that statistic was 7.9. The figure had been 5.1 percent on Sunday.

In Clarke County, the positivity rate for the 468 tests listed was 3.0, and the seven-day rolling average for the rate was 4.3, a new record low for the county.

The Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) reported on Thursday that area hospitals had 62 COVID-19 patients, the same figure reported in the last five days, 65 ICU beds in use out of a capacity of 70, down from 66 on Wednesday, and 32 adult ventilators in use, up from 29 on Wednesday.
