Watkinsville Police: Report of Harassing Calls Leads to Drug Arrest

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Police were called to a Concord Drive address around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, where a woman reported having received numerous unwanted telephone calls from a former friend who advised her that he was currently in a room at the Luxury Inn on South Main Street, Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon noted in a news release.

Police traveled to the Luxury Inn and met with the man concerning the phone calls. The room smelled of marijuana smoke and a search of the man revealed that he was carrying a small amount of marijuana in his pocket, O'Dillon said.

The 35-year-old Watkinsville man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

In his weekly news release, O'Dillon recapped some of the other incidents that police responded to during the week ending on June 24:

  • At 2:20 Wednesday afternoon a 2005 Ford and a 2002 Mazda Protégé were involved in a mishap at the Watkinsville Post Office parking lot. The Mazda backed into the side of the Ford. No one was injured.
  • Friday afternoon police were called to a VFW Drive address where a woman returned home and found that the family had removed her belongings and stored them in a storage warehouse. The woman had earlier advised her husband that she did not want to be married anymore. She was also leaving for long periods of time without contact with the family. So, while she was gone they moved her out. Police stood by to keep the peace while the woman checked the house for any other belongings. The husband advised her of where her property was and gave her the storage key.
  • At 6:23 Friday evening police were called to Highway 15 at Barnett Shoals Road where a 1994 Lexus LS-400 struck the back of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. Neither driver was injured. A 23-year-old Watkinsville man was charged with following too closely.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between June 18 and June 24.
