Windows Busted, Valuables Taken from Vehicles at High School and Park

A thief last week targeted a pair of vehicles parked near the softball field at Oconee County High School.

Both thefts happened on Monday, July 8, between 5:30 and 8 p.m., according to Oconee County Sheriff's Office incident reports.   

In one instance, a 16-year-old girl reported someone smashed the driver's side window of her 2006 Nissan Maxima. A purse, which had been left on the front seat, was missing.  

The other theft was reported by a 48-year-old man, who told deputies that his wallet had been taken from his unlocked 2012 Ford F-150.  

On the same date and around the same time, a deputy was dispatched to Herman C. Michael Park to investigate the break-in of a 2011 Honda CR-Z. 

A 24-year-old man said he arrived at the park around 5:45 p.m. to teach a class inside of the building, and when he returned to the vehicle around 7 p.m., he discovered the driver's side window had been shattered and his wallet was missing.  Deputies dusted the car for fingerprints, but none were found.

A couple of days later on the morning of July 10, a resident, 25, of Echo Trail reported that three unlocked vehicles in his driveway had been entered sometime between 11 p.m. the night before and 7 a.m. on that Wednesday. A circular saw, gun carry permit, and several charging cords were stolen. 

All of the cases are listed as active.
