ROSWELL, GA — There were no injuries after a fire erupted at a River Close home during Wednesday night's storm, the Roswell Fire Department said.
Flames and smoke were detected on the home's roof by a neighbor who saw a bright flash of lightning and decided to step outside around 7:45 p.m., fire officials said.
The residents in the home safely evacuated before first responders arrived on scene, fire officials said.
When crews arrived, fire officials said they had the fire under control by about 8 p.m.
An official cause of the fire was not released, and officials did not say if lightning struck the home.
The fire department is reminding people to have smoke alarms on each level of their homes and inside every bedroom.
Fire officials also shared the following tips:
"Interconnected alarms throughout the home give everyone the earliest possible warning, no matter where a fire starts," fire officials said.
