Today's riddle: Why was the scarecrow given an award? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Roswell mayor's proposed 20% tax hike reduced to 5% following backlash (fultonneighbor.com) — Roswell leaders have approved a smaller-than-planned property tax hike, raising the millage rate about 5 percent instead of the nearly 20 percent increase first proposed by the mayor. Homeowners will pay roughly $5 more per month, after vocal residents and a Fulton County commissioner urged officials to treat a tax increase as a last resort while still funding roads and public safety.
2. Virtual Ribbon-Cutting: Roswell Completes Citywide LED Lighting Upgrades at Athletic Facilities (roswellconnections.com) — Roswell has finished converting lighting at athletic fields and racquet courts citywide to energy-efficient LEDs, a 2022 Parks Bond project that should cut power use by about 54 percent. Residents can expect brighter, more reliable evening play, while the city projects more than $1.3 million in savings over the next decade from lower energy, maintenance, and staffing costs.
3. Police search for driver who ran away after traffic stop in Sandy Springs (fox5atlanta.com) — Police from Sandy Springs and Roswell are searching near Hannover Park Road and Dunwoody Place after a driver fled a traffic stop on foot, and residents are urged to avoid the area. Authorities have not released the suspect's identity, description, or the reason for the stop, leaving key details unknown while the search continues around the Roswell–Sandy Springs line.
4. GA: Two killed in Franklin County crash, troopers say (wyff4.com) — Two Roswell residents, Khasan Umarov and Khalisa Umarova, died after their car hydroplaned on I-85 in Franklin County and hit a tree, according to Georgia State Patrol. Troopers say the Saturday afternoon crash showed no signs of driver impairment, and both victims passed away after being taken to the hospital.
5. Week 7 scores & recaps (nowgeorgia.com) — Roswell High's football team took a tough 34-5 loss to Gainesville in a packed Week 7 slate of Georgia high school games. The roundup highlights key region matchups, big comebacks, and statewide scores that help Roswell fans track potential playoff competition.
