Act3 Productions Present 'Sondheim on Sondheim'

Act3 Productions and the Metropolitan Atlanta Theater Awards will present Sondheim on Sondheim July 2 through 18 at Act3 productions in Sandy Springs.

The musical, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, originally conceived and directed by James Lapine, provides an intimate look at the father of the modern musical.

Audiences will get an intimate look at the famed composer through exclusive interview footage and will hear new arrangements of his most beloved work sung by a cast of 22 of the Atlanta area’s most accomplished singers. Sondheim is known for an extensive body of work, including Into the Woods, West Side Story, Sweeney Todd, and Assassins.

The production will take place at Act3 Playhouse, located in Sandy Springs Plaza at 6285 Roswell Road. Show times are: July 2 and 3 at 8 p.m., July 10 and 11 at 8 p.m., July 12 at 3 p.m., and July 17 and 18 at 8 p.m.

Tickets are available online at www.act3productions.org and range from $15 to $25. Group rates are available for groups of 10 or more.

Proceeds from the show will benefit the Metropolitan Atlanta Theater Awards (MATs). The organization was founded in 1994 by Russ Ivey to recognize hard working actors, directors, designers, and theater companies for their contributions to performing arts in metro Atlanta.

MAT Awards in 18 categories are presented at a formal ceremony each August. Nominations are open to community and non-union professional theater companies. For more information, visit www.matawards.com.

Act3 Productions offers a full season of musicals, plays and new works at its state-of-the-art black box theater. The Act3 Arts Academy provides arts education and performance opportunities for students from grades kindergarten to college. Act3 will open its fifth season in Sandy Springs with the musical Ruthless on September 18.
