Actress, Filmmaker Visit Riverwood Students
Reece Odum and James Hammond conducted a live studio information session before AVTF students about preparing for a career in TV and Film.
From Riverwood Int'l: Riverwood International Charter School’s Audio Video Technology and Film (AVTF) students welcomed Reece Odum and James Hammond to their alma mater on Friday, February 9, 2018. Odum and Hammond conducted a live studio information session before AVTF students about preparing for a career in TV and Film. The production, directed by current student Mikelah Rodolfo, consisted of an all student crew. Students were treated to open and honest conversation about how to present themselves in public, reminders about online etiquette, and the importance of getting hands-on training while in high school. In addition to making a real-world connection to Riverwood alumni in the industry, bringing Odum and Hammond to campus was a natural complement to this semester’s nine week Georgia Film Academy (GFA) Film curriculum.
Odum, a recent Riverwood graduate, award winning actress and native of Atlanta, spent time with students, sharing her experiences as an actress, model, and producer. During the event, Reece received a 36x24 poster commemorating her homecoming to Riverwood. Odum recently landed recurring roles on season eight of CW's "The Vampire Diaries" and Bounce TV's "Saints and Sinners" season two. Her film and television shows include: TV One's "The Secret She Kept," Oxygen's "Killer Posts," BET Centric's "What Love Will Make You Do," BET's "Mr. Right," UPtv's " Lyfe's Journey" and "The Wish." Hammond, Riverwood class of 2001, is the founder of Ikon Filmworks, a full service video production company that offers an expanded suite of high quality Audio & Video services. Ikon clients include the American Cancer Society, the City of Atlanta, Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Turner Broadcasting, and more. Dr. J.C. Futrell leads Riverwood’s AVTF program. He has twice been on the faculty at Riverwood, with his most recent tenure beginning in 2013. Highlights of the 2017-2018 school year also include Futrell’s attendance at the Georgia Film Academy (GFA) training that enabled the rollout of the Film Curriculum during the spring 2018 semester.
