SANDY SPRINGS, GA — Two people are facing gun charges in connection with a recent incident at Morgan Falls Overlook Park, Sandy Springs Police said Wednesday.
Officers on Tuesday responded to the park after receiving a call about a man who was dressed in military-style gear and suspected of engaging in a dispute with someone else, police said. The man had gone into a wooded area, police said.
While officers were investigating, police said a 911 caller reported hearing potential gunshots in the area.
A large police presence then ensued, and police said they found and arrested James Andrew Dutton in the parking lot of Morgan Falls.
Additionally, police said they found and arrested Elisha Deaton across the Chattahoochee River in Cobb County. Deaton was located in the area of Aven Road and Conway Drive, police said.
Police have not said what led to the pair being officially charged.
Though detectives have not yet connected Dutton or Deaton to the possible shooting, police said they are both facing charges of possession of a firearm in a city park and possession of alcohol in a city park.
The incident took place on Election Day for the 2026 midterm primaries. Police said they have not located evidence linking the incident to voting or election activity.
No one was injured during the incident, police said.
