There’s no place like home for the holidays, but for hospitalized patients and healthcare workers, being home isn’t always possible.

This year, however, a local family is lifting the holiday spirits of patients and staff at Northside Hospital who can’t be home for the season by bringing the season to them.
Teresa Smith or “T”, as she was affectionately known, was a patient at Northside Hospital during the 2013 holiday season when her family decided to decorate her room for Christmas.

After Teresa lost her 17-year battle with cancer in March 2014, her family established “T’s Angels,” a non-profit organization that shares T’s story through projects and supports others facing difficult obstacles. To honor Teresa, the group’s first project took place last December when they decorated Northside’s 4 Central (4C) medical unit where Teresa was a patient.
On Sunday Nov., 22, 60 volunteers honored Teresa’s memory and helped “deck the hospital.” Together they decorated 13 departments or units with garland, ornaments and wreaths to brighten the spirits of those who cannot be at home with family and friends during the holidays.
