Barbecue Festival To Benefit Kids With Brain Injuries

The first-ever Andee's Army Summer BBQ Festival will take place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at Chastain Park.

Andee’s Army, a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to families of children and youth receiving medical treatment for acquired brain injuries and other neurological injuries, is cooking up plans for the first-ever Andee’s Army Summer BBQ Festival.

The event will take place noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 20 at the American Legion Post 140 at 3905 Powers Ferry Road at Chastain Park.

The BBQ cookoff will feature over 10 registered BBQ teams who will be slow cooking their culinary creations up to a day in advance. The day of events will consist of two contests and awards by both local celebrity judges and a People’s Choice Awards.

Local celebrity judges are Kevin Rathbun, Steak Shapiro, Bennett Brown, Niko Karatassos and Andee Poulos.

“We anticipate that families and the community will embrace this summer kickoff event, our cause, and enjoy some great barbecue,” said event chair Lisa Kennedy. “Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with competitors about their barbecue concoctions, and have the chance to win a 50/50 raffle.

In addition to barbecue favorites, those in attendance can expect a lineup of live entertainment, door prizes, additional food, non-alcoholic beverages, beer and wine for purchase and a 50/50 raffle. An Andee’s Army invitational softball tournament will be hosted simultaneously by NYO at Chastain Park to round out a full day of family offerings.

To buy a ticket, please visit the event’s website. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $10 for children 12 years old and younger. Space is limited so please reserve your spot no later than June 19.
