Battle Of The Bands Added To Sandy Springs Festival Lineup

Local amateur groups are encouraged to submit their act for consideration by Aug. 23.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The 32nd Annual Sandy Springs Festival is two months away, and organizers continue to tweak the two-day community tradition to appeal to a wider range of attendees.

This time around, Heritage Sandy Springs will feature a Battle of the Bands competition on Sunday, Sept. 24. Local, amateur groups are welcome to submit their act for consideration before the Aug. 23 deadline. You can apply to take part in the battle by clicking here.

Five finalists will be chosen to compete at the festival, with cash prizes up for grabs. Bands must be amateur acts, with all members under the age of 25 and currently enrolled in school -- up to and including college. The battle will take place between noon and 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, with awards presented at 4:30 p.m. Judges will include local musicians, music teachers, booking agents and more.

“This year’s festival will feature many exciting changes, starting with free admission for all of our friends and neighbors,” said Festival Director Sarah Poland. “In keeping with this trend of inclusion, we wanted to highlight a wide variety of musical groups, both young and old. The Battle of the Bands is a perfect way for amateur acts to showcase their skills in front of a large audience. There is a plethora of young musical talent in our community, from music schools to extra-curricular arts programs to ‘garage’ bands, so we know this battle will bring out the best of the best."

Established in 1984 as Founders Day, the Sandy Springs Festival has grown from a small picnic to the largest community event in Sandy Springs, drawing 20,000 attendees over two days.
