Black Lives Matter Protest Held at North Springs High School

Fulton County Schools say the protest was fueled by a rumor that a student was asked to remove a Black Lives Matter T-shirt.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- A group of students at North Springs Charter High School held a "peaceful" protest late Friday morning after a rumor circulated that a student was asked to remove a Black Lives Matter T-shirt by an administrator.

Fulton County Schools spokesperson Susan Hale said the rumor was not true, but the 45-minute protest was held in the Sandy Springs institution's hallways.

"We support our students’ freedom of expression as long as it does not create a school disruption," she said.

She also said rumors spread that someone compared the Black Lives Matter movement to a terrorist organization. There was also no truth to that rumor, but the alleged T-shirt incident propelled the students to stage the sit-in.

"Students and staff were respectful throughout, and while this caused a slight disruption to the normal school day, it did not impact instruction for the rest of the school," she added.
