Here are the top three stories in and around Sandy Springs today:
- A Fulton County judge has denied bond for Raissa Kengne. She has been accused of opening fire at an apartment building and office building in Midtown resulting in the death of two individuals. Kengne protested during the hearing and the judge had to remind her that she had the right to remain silent. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- A mixed-use project could replace an auto service center in Sandy Springs. On Aug. 17, The Sandy Springs Planning Commission approved an application for a six-story, mixed-use development that would replace the NAPA AutoCare Center at 5810 Roswell Road and 0 Allen Road, just north of I-285. The developer, Shelton McNally Real Estate Partners, intends to build 199 residential units ranging from 575 square feet to 1,025 square feet. (Reporter Newspapers)
- The Georgia State Elections Board will not be overtaking the Fulton County election process during the Nov. 8 midterm election. The decision has been delayed until after a performance review is completed following the November election. The decision will ultimately be made after hearings by the Georgia State Elections Board. - The parents of a murdered Fulton County detective are speaking out about waiting for justice for over seven years. Detective Terence Green was killed by Amanuel Menghesha, 50 years old, in 2015. Menghesha was sentenced to life plus 375 years on Friday. Green's parents have been grieving since the incident but are finally at ease following the sentencing. (WSBRadio)
