Use Your Mind in the Election

Why are the national and state elections so important? Will we choose to vote with our minds or our "wishful thinking?"

We’re at a major juncture: Do we continue a slow but steady economic recovery or buy into the illusion that there ever was or is anything such as “an easy fix.”

But it is much, much more than that. This election will determine the direction of many significant social agendas via legislation and judicial oversight: Women’s health care, equal economic rights for all citizens regardless of race, gender, or sexual orientation; protection of our environment, and verifiable impact on the rate of abortions through support of legitimate family planning (instead of wishful thinking).

Whether you think President Obama has done as much as you wanted or not, he has taken the necessary steps to prevent economic disaster and put us on a slow but steady road to recovery. Gov. Romney has no verifiable alternative to offer and he is playing the game, “You will believe anything I say if it’s what you want to hear.”

Where the Governor stands on any of the significant social agendas is anyone’s guess because he has taken every stance possible if it pleased the audience of the moment.

Don’t take a chance, vote for President Obama and a reasonable, consistent economic recovery and a social agenda that is inclusive and predicated on our country’s history of helping each other.

The Presidential election is not all that is important. If the state Republican Party gets its way, they will control both houses of the legislature and the governorship.

So what you may ask?  Because then they are free to press through ambiguous sounding constitutional amendments that really put the government right in the middle of our individual health decisions and our bedrooms. We MUST have a two party functioning state legislature.
