Cause Of Death Released For Sandy Springs Man Found In River

The body of Larry Cavanaugh, 78, was recovered from the Chattahoochee River Wednesday morning near the Morgan Falls Dam.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office has released the cause and manner of death for the 78-year-old Sandy Springs resident whose body was recovered from the Chattahoochee River. An investigator with the agency told Patch that Larry Cavanaugh died by drowning and his manner of death was determined to be suicide.

Cavanaugh's remains were found around 9:30 a.m. Feb. 20 in the area of the Morgan Falls Dam, the Sandy Springs Police Department said, adding that his death was not believed to be suspicious.

He was last seen on Sunday, Feb. 11, the same day he was reported missing, police spokesperson Capt. Forrest Bohannon said. His gold BMW 740 was located at Morgan Falls Dam on Thursday, Feb. 15 and search efforts for him "immediately began in the area where his vehicle was located and the surrounding areas," she added.
