The eight-week program provides participants with an overview of fire operations and hands-on experience with fire and life safety.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Sandy Springs Fire Department is accepting applications for its upcoming Citizens Fire Academy, which will begin Sept. 20. The eight-week course provides participants with an overview of fire operations, including hands-on experience in fire and life safety.
As part of the September training, participants will also receive Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT, training. This program educates volunteers about disaster preparedness at the local level. The Sandy Springs Citizens Fire Academy is free and open to those ages 18 and older who live and work in Sandy Springs.
The Citizens Fire Academy community engagement program began in 2015, and is designed to provide residents with an increased awareness of the day-to-day operations of the fire department. Graduates of the Citizens Fire Academy have the option to continue training in an eight-week program to become a member of the Fire Corp, a volunteer unit which assists the fire department with non-suppression activities.
